Red Light Heals Vision

Recently it has been reported that 2 min of deep red light therapy in elderly subjects heals vision.

It occurs that this wavelength stimulates the brain in the same manner as sleep.  What are the eyes actually seeing when flitting about during REM sleep?

Seen through the eyelids of a sleeping person ambient light may be the very range approximated by this study:

What positive benefit accrues in the retina when stimulated by deep dark red?  Processing as per the cleansing functions of REM?

As one ages one tends to sleep less, perhaps a graded approach and appreciation of remainders.  But less sleep means less healing of the mind - less subconscious processing.  Not healthy but addressed now in the deep dark red.
